๐Ÿ“ PDF to Text

Extract all the readable text from a PDF into an editable text box you can copy or save as a .txt file.

About this PDF to Text

PDF to Text pulls the actual text layer out of a PDF document and drops it into an editable box, page by page. It is the fastest way to reuse content from reports, e-books, invoices and forms without retyping. The PDF.js engine runs locally in your browser, so private documents never leave your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF file; extraction starts automatically.
  2. Wait while each page is read (shown in the status line).
  3. Edit the text in the box if you need to.
  4. Copy it to the clipboard or download it as a .txt file.

Example

A student extracts the text of a 10-page research PDF in seconds and pastes the quotes she needs into her assignment.

Frequently asked questions

Why did I get no text from my scanned PDF?

Scans are pictures of pages โ€” there is no text layer to extract. You would need an OCR tool to recognize the words in the image.

Is the formatting preserved?

Line breaks are kept where the PDF has them, but columns, fonts and exact layout cannot survive in plain text.
