About this Text to Speech
This text to speech tool uses the voice built into your browser to read text aloud, with nothing to install and nothing uploaded. Adjust the reading speed and pitch, and pick from the voices your device offers. It is useful for proofreading your own writing, learning pronunciation, or listening instead of reading.
How to use it
- Type or paste the text you want to hear.
- Choose a voice if more than one is available.
- Adjust the speed and pitch sliders.
- Press Speak, and Stop whenever you are done.
Example
Paste an English paragraph, set the speed to 1.2, and press Speak to hear it read slightly faster than normal.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the voice list empty?
Some browsers load voices a moment later or offer only one default voice. The default voice always works.
Does the text get sent to a server?
No. Your browser speaks the text on your own device.
Which browsers support this?
Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox all include speech synthesis on most devices.
