⚖️ BMI Calculator

Check your Body Mass Index from height and weight, in metric or imperial units.

About this BMI Calculator

The Body Mass Index compares your weight with your height to give a quick indication of whether you are underweight, in the healthy range, overweight or obese. It is a screening guide used worldwide, not a full health diagnosis, because it does not measure body fat, muscle or bone directly.

How to use it

  1. Choose metric (kg/cm) or imperial (lb/in) units.
  2. Enter your weight and your height.
  3. Press Calculate BMI to see your score and category.
  4. Compare your weight with the healthy range shown for your height.

Example

A person weighing 70 kg with a height of 175 cm: BMI = 70 / (1.75 x 1.75) = 22.9, which falls in the Normal weight category.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy BMI?

For most adults a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered the healthy range.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

BMI can overestimate body fat in very muscular people, because muscle is heavier than fat. Treat it as a general guide.

What BMI is underweight?

A BMI below 18.5 is classed as underweight for adults.
