❤️ BMR Calculator

Find your Basal Metabolic Rate - the calories your body burns at complete rest.

About this BMR Calculator

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body needs each day to keep basic functions running while you rest: breathing, blood circulation, temperature control and cell repair. This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which research has found to be the most accurate simple formula for most adults.

How to use it

  1. Enter your age, sex, weight in kilograms and height in centimetres.
  2. Press Calculate BMR.
  3. Read your resting calorie burn per day and per hour.
  4. Multiply by an activity factor (1.2 to 1.9) if you want your total daily calorie needs.

Example

A 25-year-old woman, 60 kg and 165 cm: BMR = (10 x 60) + (6.25 x 165) - (5 x 25) - 161 = 600 + 1,031 - 125 - 161 = 1,345 kcal per day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?

BMR is calories burned at complete rest. TDEE is BMR plus all daily movement and exercise, so it is always higher.

Why does BMR fall with age?

Muscle mass usually decreases with age, and muscle burns more calories than fat, so resting needs slowly drop.

Should I eat exactly my BMR?

BMR is a floor for planning, not a target. Most people should eat above it and base intake on total daily needs.
