📏 Body Fat Calculator

Estimate body fat percentage from neck, waist and hip measurements (US Navy method).

About this Body Fat Calculator

The US Navy body fat method estimates your body fat percentage from simple tape measurements instead of expensive scans. It uses height, neck and waist circumference for men, and adds hip circumference for women. Results are typically within a few percent of lab methods when measurements are taken carefully and consistently.

How to use it

  1. Select your sex (the hip field appears for women).
  2. Measure height, neck and waist in centimetres, plus hips for women.
  3. Press Calculate Body Fat.
  4. Read your estimated percentage and its category.

Example

A man with height 178 cm, waist 86 cm and neck 38 cm: converting to inches and applying the Navy formula gives about 17.3% body fat, in the Fitness category.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the Navy method?

It is usually within about 1-3 percentage points of more advanced methods when the tape measurements are correct.

Where do I measure my waist?

Horizontally at the level of your navel, standing relaxed, without pulling the tape tight.

Why does the formula need neck size?

Neck circumference helps the formula separate lean mass from fat stored around the waist.
