๐Ÿ”— URL Encoder & Decoder

Encode or decode URLs and query text safely, with component or full-URL modes.

About this URL Encoder & Decoder

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, symbols and non-English text must be percent-encoded before they travel in a link. This tool encodes and decodes in both modes: component mode for individual values such as search terms, and full-URL mode that preserves the structure of a complete address.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text or URL into the box.
  2. Pick Component mode for a single value, or Full URL mode for a whole address.
  3. Click Encode to make it URL-safe, or Decode to turn percent-escapes back into readable text.
  4. Copy the result from the box.

Example

Encoding the text hello world in component mode gives hello%20world โ€” the space becomes %20, safe to place inside any link.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use?

Use Component when encoding one piece of data, like a search query or a redirect target. Use Full URL when cleaning up or encoding an entire address without breaking its slashes and parameters.

Why do I see % signs everywhere?

Each unsafe byte is written as % followed by two hex digits. Non-English characters take several bytes, so one letter can become a string like %D8%A7.

What does a decode error mean?

The text contains a broken escape, such as a lone % or %ZZ. Real encoded text always pairs % with two hex digits.
