โ˜‚๏ธ Emergency Fund Calculator

Work out your 3, 6 or 12-month emergency fund target and the monthly saving to reach it.

About this Emergency Fund Calculator

An emergency fund is the cash cushion that turns a job loss, medical bill or car breakdown from a crisis into an inconvenience. Enter your essential monthly expenses, choose how many months of cover you want โ€” six is the classic recommendation โ€” and see your target, what remains after any savings you already have, and the steady monthly amount that gets you there in your chosen timeframe.

How to use it

  1. Add up one month of essential expenses: rent, food, bills, transport, school fees.
  2. Pick your cover: 3 months basic, 6 recommended, 12 very safe.
  3. Enter what you have already saved and how many years you will take to finish.
  4. Click Calculate my fund for the target and the monthly saving needed.

Example

Monthly expenses of 80,000 with 6 months of cover make a 480,000 target; with nothing saved yet, that means saving 20,000 a month for 2 years.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I keep an emergency fund?

Somewhere safe and reachable within a day or two โ€” a separate savings account is typical. It should not be invested in anything that can fall in value or locked away for years.

Should I build the fund before paying off debts?

Keep a small starter cushion first, attack high-interest debt, then finish the fund โ€” expensive card interest usually costs more than the fund earns.
