๐Ÿ“… Pro Rata Salary Calculator

Work out the fair part-month salary from monthly pay, days worked and days in the month.

About this Pro Rata Salary Calculator

Pro rata salary is the fair part of a monthly salary for someone who worked only part of the month โ€” a new joiner, an employee leaving mid-month, or unpaid leave. This calculator divides the monthly salary by the days in the month to get a per-day rate, then multiplies by the days worked. It is the method most small businesses use for first and final payslips.

How to use it

  1. Enter the full monthly salary for the role.
  2. Enter how many days the employee actually worked.
  3. Enter the total days in that month โ€” 30 is the common payroll convention; use 28, 29 or 31 for exact calendar months.
  4. Click Calculate to see the per-day rate and the payable amount.

Example

A monthly salary of 90,000 over a 30-day month is 3,000 per day, so an employee who joined and worked 12 days is paid 36,000 for that month.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use calendar days or working days?

Both methods exist. Calendar days (28โ€“31) are simplest and common in monthly payrolls; working days suit staff paid only for scheduled shifts. Be consistent for all employees.

Does pro rata apply to allowances too?

Usually yes โ€” allowances and deductions for a part month are often pro-rated by the same fraction. This calculator shows the salary portion; apply the same percentage to allowances if your policy does.
