About this Screen Resolution Checker

Your screen resolution is not the same as your browser window size, and neither matches the CSS pixels a website actually sees. This checker reports all of them live: the physical screen, the area not covered by taskbars, the viewport, the full window, the device pixel ratio and the orientation โ€” the numbers you need when testing responsive designs or reporting a display bug.

How to use it

  1. Open the page โ€” your values appear instantly.
  2. Resize the browser window or rotate your phone and watch the viewport numbers update.
  3. Click Refresh values to re-read everything.
  4. Quote the viewport size when reporting layout problems.

Example

A laptop might show screen 1920 ร— 1080, but a viewport of 1365 ร— 889 once the browser chrome and a half-size window are taken into account.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my viewport smaller than my screen?

The taskbar, browser toolbars, bookmarks bar and window borders all take space. The viewport is only the area the web page itself gets.

What is device pixel ratio?

How many physical pixels make one CSS pixel. Retina and most phone screens use 2 or 3, which is why screenshots look sharper than the CSS size suggests.
