โš–๏ธ Ratio Calculator

Simplify any ratio and split a total amount in a given ratio.

About this Ratio Calculator

The ratio calculator simplifies any two-number ratio to its lowest terms, the way recipes, maps and finance figures are normally written. It also splits a total amount in a chosen ratio, which is useful for sharing money, mixing ingredients, dividing profit or scaling a recipe up or down fairly.

How to use it

  1. Type the two ratio numbers.
  2. Click Simplify Ratio for the lowest-terms form.
  3. Optionally type a total and click Split Total to divide it in that ratio.

Example

20:30 simplifies to 2:3. Split a total of 100 in the ratio 2:3 and you get 40 and 60.

Frequently asked questions

How is a ratio simplified?

Both numbers are divided by their greatest common divisor. For 20 and 30 the GCD is 10, giving 2:3.

Can I use decimal numbers?

Yes. Decimals like 2.5 : 7.5 are scaled up and simplified to 1 : 3.

What does splitting a total mean?

The total is divided into parts proportional to the ratio, so a 2:3 split of 100 gives 40 to the first side and 60 to the second.
